A New Champion in the 2nd Annual Startup Games: Level Up

A New Champion in the 2nd Annual Startup Games: Level Up

An exciting ending to an exciting day for the ten companies competing in Startup Games: Level Up 2016. Held on April 23rd, the graduated startups (with 250+ employees) brought their best athletes in ten events to support their chosen charities.

The day got started with the Opening Ceremony, highlighted by torch runner, Garrett Weber-Gale. Events kicked off with the CEO event, Liar’s Dice, 3-person team Ping Pong, and the big attraction, Dodgeball. Currently a Level Up exclusive, Dodgeball, saw the top three spots taken by three rookie teams, The Honest Company in Bronze, Spiceworks for Silver, and Spredfast won Gold. Yet, BuildASign and Bigcommerce (last year’s 1 and 2) took Gold in Liar’s Dice and Ping Pong, respectively, setting up an early battle for the top spot.

Mario Kart and the Mystery Event came up next, where newcomer Accruent took the top spot in the racing and Spredfast took another Gold in this year’s mystery of logic puzzle games. Beer Pong came next where RetailMeNot threw their hat in the ring of Gold medal winners. And, debut event Jenga, saw a familiar winner at the top podium, BuildASign. Not to be outdone, Bigcommerce took Gold in Foosball as Main Street Hub won Trivia.

Going into the final event, Flip Cup, BuildASign held a 2 point lead over Spredfast, but fell short and could only manage a Bronze. The final came down to HomeAway and Spredfast. Spredfast stepped up and snatched victory to take the Gold and 1st place trophy by 2 points.

With the win, Spredfast earned $14,000 to their charity of choice, Big Brothers Big Sisters. 2nd place BuildASign were able to send $9,000 to Lung Cancer Alliance, and the 3rd place RetailMeNot took $6,000 for the Boys & Girls Club. The other companies earned $2,000 for their 7 other charities. Overall, Startup Games: Level Up raised $43,000 for the 10 charities.

Thank you to everyone who made it out to the great event!
