The Winners of Startup Games Austin in 2019

On January 12, 2019, Austin’s startup community teamed up to raise over $60,000 for local nonprofits at Startup Games. Teams from 18 startups competed against one another in events including dodgeball, trivia, ping pong, cornhole and Mario Kart 64. More than 1,500 people attended the event to watch teams #crushitforcharity.

The Winners

1st Place: Modernize

Modernize, defending champions from 2018, showed up waving a blue flag and ready to compete. The team placed in the top three in 7 of 12 events and took first place in the bonus point game, which was a race to pack care kits for a family crisis center that provides services to individuals who have experienced domestic or sexual violence.

Modernize raised $18,000 for Community First! Village.

2nd Place: Outbound Engine

Outbound Engine won first place in three classic Startup Games events: Flip Cup, Beer Bong and Mario Kart 64.

Outbound Engine raised $12,000 for Austin Pets Alive!

3rd Place: ScaleFactor

ScaleFactor won Shuffleboard and took second place in Beer Pong and the Bonus Point game.

ScaleFactor raised $7,500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The Runners Up

While not every startup took home a trophy, every team gave back to the charity of their choice. The following teams raised $1,500 for their organizations.

  • OnlineMedEd: Doctors Without Borders


Startup Games is an annual competition where team building meets charitable giving. Founded in 2012, Startup Games is an initiative of Notley. Over the last 9 years, startup games has given over $550,000 to startups in Austin, Denver and Atlanta.

ATX Sports & Adventures sponsored Austin Startup Games and provided referees for the games. This company has been bringing Austinites together to play the games they love since 2011. They offer games including Sand Volleyball, Kickball, Flag Football, Basketball, Softball and Cornhole and new seasons start in February.
